This wasn’t supposed to happen. The shuttle fleet, innocuous-looking as it was, should be able to do its job and then lift away from Terra and race toward home without facing a moment of real danger. But from all around the globe, Drew was hearing the same cries of disbelief.
“Drop your load and get out of there, Tiny,” Drew ordered, somehow making his voice work even though his mouth was impossibly dry. In contrast to his trousers...somehow or other he’d never realized what an effect on the human body fear could have. Raw terror, the kind that a few hours ago he’d seen render his brother Rik unconscious.
He still didn’t know what the hell Rik had been so afraid of. But at least Rik, damn the man, had gracefully fainted. That beat wetting one’s pants—it really did.
Drew was glad to be flying alone.
