Evie is an evergreen tree born in a forest outside of a big city. At night she admires the twinkling lights down below the valley and yearns to someday see what surprises the city holds. A young deer tells little Evie of the legend of the woodsman who many years before had visited the forest in search of the perfect tree to decorate the city square for Christmas. When she is grown, Evie's daydream that another visit from the woodsman will be her ticket to experience the excitement of the city comes true when she is chosen to be the city Christmas tree. While her initial trip is exhilarating, Evie quickly becomes homesick. Evie's fortunes turn for the better when she is uprooted once again after Christmas and replanted near her family and friends. Even better yet, the beauty Evie brought to the city people during the holiday inspires them to visit the forest and bring laughter, joy and appreciation of the many living things who make a home there. This book is for children 4-8. It is also an excellent story for reading to pre-school aged children.
