GIFTS FROM THE DESERT: the Enlightenment of Paul of Tarsus is a non-fiction novel about St. Paul. It breaks new ground in imagining his sojourn in the desert in a way that satisfies our curiosities about how this man transformed from Saul to Paul, the Apostle. After a series of appearances to Paul, Jesus sends him a mystic mentor, Amal, who shares knowledge of Jesus unknown to any of the other Apostles. Amal amazes Paul by relating stories of Jesus' dialogues with Hindus, Buddhists and Jains, while they had been traveling together in India, fifteen years previously. These revelations color the entire ministry of Paul as subsequently related.
