After leaving church service, he married and had a three decade career as a Professor of Sociology. Since retirement in 1999, he and his wife, Ann, have lived in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. ... His son, William Powers, is the authors of books and articles on global issues. His daughter, Amy Powers, operates a business that evaluates environmental education programs.About the Author:

Powers is the author of four previously published books: Free Priests: The Movement for Ministerial Reform in the American Catholic Church; Alive and Well: The Emergence of the Active Nonagenarian; Tar Heel Catholics: A History of Catholicism in North Carolina; Love is Strong as Death, a novel that draws from his experiences as a Roman Catholic priest. After serving in the ministry for ten years, Powers married and had a career as Professor of Sociology. He and his wife, Ann, live in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. They have two children and four grandchildren.
