About the Author:

My name is Desmond Baker, poetry found its way into my heart at the humbled age of 14. Since then my writing has grown and transcend my inner deepest thoughts to manifest and help build the man that I am. Ive been fortunate enough to document some of my most enticing moments along with a few tragic times throughout my life. Poetry has been my escape from a sometimes harsh reality that may alter one from living the best life possible. I was born and raised in Camden, NJ; my environment has been my biggest inspiration because of the suffering of the people that reside there, yet there are aspirations and hope among many that will ultimately rejuvenate the town of my birth. Poetry is art just like life and throughout my writing career some of the most influential people have been: Gwendolyn Baker (my grandmother), Maya Angelou, Alyesha Wise (Ms. Wise), Langston Hughes, Black Ice, The Twin Poets, William Shakespeare, Matthew Walker, Anwar Sanders (Non-Fiction), Pierre Fussell, Tonya Johnson, Hill Harper, Cornell West, Barack Obama and many more have influenced my pen to slide across many sheets of paper that could stretch across the globe. Since becoming a poet all Ive wanted is for my voice not only to be heard, but also be an inspiration to all people and encourage them to want to live the best life they can. There is no doubt that my inner desire was always to be an author and service my purpose with this precious life. Whether Im writing about love, music, dreams, tragedy, etc. its all a representation of the beat my heart moves to every second and until it doesnt Im going to give the best of me.
