Michael J. Vaughn is the author of ten previous novels, including the award-winning opera novel Gabriellas Voice (2000, Dead End Street, LLC). He has worked for 25 years as an opera critic, covering productions in San Francisco, Seattle and San Jose. Vaughn is also active as a musician, singing with a jazz trio and drumming for the rock band Exit Wonderland. He lives in San Jose. (Photo by Janine Watson.) Barbara Divis has sung more than 35 roles with companies including San Diego Opera, Atlanta Opera, Austin Lyric Opera, Hawaii Opera Theater and, of course, Opera San Jose. She is proud to have won the Orgullo Hispano award for distinguished Hispanic women, in 2007. Divis is an Army brat who lived in Germany and Taiwan but calls Texas home.
