A Horse With Wings contains sixteen original songs and pictures for children, composed and illustrated by Daeshin Kim and Sohyun An Kim respectively, a husband and wife team. Each nursery rhyme is 'sung by' a character from Shakespeare - for example, Hamlet sings about his dear departed friend Yorick, and Juliet wonders what's in a name. Each song also addresses a specific issue with which children can identify, whether it be about rivalry, bullying or simply about the smelliest dog in the world. The Kims' young daughter Sherman also sings some of the songs.

From the Inside Flap:
KinderBard was created during one of those late night conversations when we were marveling over how much our daughter's spoken French was improving through her enjoyment of French nursery rhymes and folk songs. As educators ourselves, we could see how children's songs could be used as an aid to language learning. Then we wondered something out loud, like, "Wouldn't it be great if there were children's songs sung from the point of view of, say, Shakespeare characters, so that kids could also be introduced to the world of Shakespeare along the way?" And we were convinced that something like that must exist. We looked it up. We searched for such a thing because if it did exist, we wanted to buy it. But it didn't. And we knew immediately that this was something that needed to exist. And so we decided to create it ourselves.
We are KinderBard. We create original music, accompanied by original art, each work 'sung by' a character from Shakespeare.
Many of our nursery rhymes address specific children's issues, and also encourage children to independently discover the wonderfully rich world of Shakespeare.
It is our wish, first and foremost, that children connect with our work on a deep level and are entertained by our songs and pictures. But it is also our hope that, by presenting literary language and characters in an immersive way, children will fall in love with Shakespeare's works all by themselves.
And when our children re-encounter the Bard later in their academic careers, they may well feel a spark of recognition, and maybe it will feel to them like a happy reunion with old friends!
