Synopsis
When Antor Trellig, the head of a ruthless interstellar syndicate, seizes control of a supercomputer with godlike powers, the Council forces master criminal Mavra Chang into undertaking a mission to stop Trellig, but suddenly she and Trellig find themselves drawn across the universe to a mysterious planet and placed into alien bodies caught in the middle of an epic battle for control of the universe itself. About the Author
JACK L. CHALKER (1944-2005) was born in Baltimore, Maryland. While still in high school, he began writing for the amateur science fiction press, and in 1960 he launched the Hugo-nominated amateur magazine Mirage. A year later he founded Mirage Press, which grew into a major specialty publisher of nonfiction and reference books on science fiction and fantasy. His first novel, A Jungle of Stars, was published in 1976, and he became a full-time novelist two years later with the major popular success of Midnight at the Well of Souls. He was also a noted speaker on science fiction and fantasy at numerous colleges and universities and at the Smithsonian Institute. His awards include the Daedalus Award (1983), the Gold Medal of the West Coast Review of Books (1984), Skylark Award (1980), the Hamilton-Brackett Memorial Award (1979). He was a nominee for the John W. Campbell Award twice and for the Hugo Award twice. He was posthumously awarded the Phoenix Award of the Southern Fandom Confederation (2005).
