What's in Baby's morning? Hugs and kisses, games and laughter, a ride round the garden with a sister, mother, father, and a special friend, of course - that's Little Hup, the hippo!

Pres. The course of a baby's morning gets a tender, spot-on treatment here. A baby boy wakes up, and looks around. He sees his older sister, asleep; his little chair; and his stuffed animals, including his favorite, the hippo, Little Hup. In the next spread, Mom comes into baby's morning, picking him up, giving him a kiss and hug, and dressing him, "with a sock and a shoe for each little foot, and a hat for Little Hup." Dad appears after breakfast, and the excitement of baby's morning comes with a trip to the park, though the temporary disappearance of Little Hup leads to tears. With Hup recovered, it's time to head home for a nap, to be followed by an equally pleasant afternoon. The watercolor art, rendered in a soft palette, uses a varied design to peek into the baby's life. Full-page scenes mix and match with divided pages and panels of pictures. This endearing family, who resemble those in Helen Oxenbury's books, will be very recognizable to young children, and the pictures are large enough to show to toddlers, who will respond to the steady beat of a text shining with familiarity.
