These four traditional nursery rhymes have been carefully selected from the bestselling My Very First Mother Goose, the only book published in the last decade to feature in The Bookseller's ten "Picture Books of the Millennium". Presented in sturdy and appealing board books, these best-loved rhymes have been passed on from generation to generation and are here in the ideal format to be encountered at the earliest possible moment and savoured for an entire lifetime. Rosemary Wells' wonderful watercolour pictures create an engaging and exuberant world filled with distinctive characters - rabbits and cats and mice - guaranteed to delight the youngest child.

Good news for babies everywhere! Literature and lore expert Iona Opie and the indomitable Rosemary Wells have teamed up to create a series of Mother Goose books in a sturdy, cardboard-paged, gnaw-proof format. In Humpty Dumpty and Other Rhymes, eight favorite rhymes are delightfully illustrated, from "Humpty Dumpty" to "Little Jack Horner." Wells comes through again with adorable, expressive bunnies and shyly smiling mice. Larger (and more charmingly illustrated) than many board books, this whole star-studded Mother Goose series is guaranteed to delight your favorite little one. (Baby to preschool)
Iona Opie has dedicated her life to collecting and preserving children's games and rhymes and is considered the world's authority in the field. In partnership with her late husband, Peter Opie, she edited many acclaimed books of children's folklore, including The Oxford Dictionary of Nursery Rhymes and I Saw Esau, first published in 1947 and revised in 1992 with illustrations by Maurice Sendak. Rosemary Wells has won many major awards. Among the numerous stories she has written and illustrated for young people are the Max and Ruby books (soon to be a TV series) and three titles about Edward the Unready: Edward's First Day at School, Edward's First Swimming Party and Edward's First Night Away (Walker Books, 1996). She lives in New York.
