It was the Golden Age of British passenger shipping, when new liners were still being constructed and the finest liners afloat, the Cunard Queens, were at their peak. The airplane had yet to overtake the ocean liner as the "only way to travel" and wouldn’t do so until the early 1960s. What the liner lost in speed, it certainly made up for in luxury.
