From 1983 to 1986 she was researcher, assistant producer and presenter of the BBC's The Really Wild Show. From School Library Journal

Grade 4-6?Two up-to-date series entries that describe regions of our natural world: why they exist, how they form, and the life that has adapted to them. Deserts points out the similarities and differences in hot and cold deserts, along with the wide variety of landscape features formed during the ages. Of current interest is the section explaining how deserts are still being created and how researchers are trying to slow the process in populated areas. Islands explains the various ways these land masses form in oceans, lakes, and rivers, and provides examples of artificial ones built by animals and humans. How natural forces constantly alter islands' size and shape is discussed. A wide variety of general material is presented in each book through a rather crowded format of text, full-color photographs, maps, and fact boxes. Each double-page spread has a "Geography Detective" section that reinforces the series name, but rather than being motivational these exercises are at times more reminiscent of end-of-chapter questions in textbooks. A "mapwork" section appears to be directed toward classroom settings. While these books do not present in-depth information, they offer solid introductions to geographical terms and regions.?Diane Nunn, Richard E. Byrd Elementary School, Glen Rock, NJ
