Enid Blyton's books have sold over 500 million copies and have been translated into other languages more often than any other children's author. She wrote over 600 books and hundreds of short stories, including favourites such as The Famous Five,The Secret Seven, The Magic Faraway Tree, Malory Towers and Noddy. Born in London in 1897, Enid lived much of her life in Buckinghamshire and adored dogs, gardening and the countryside. She died in 1968 but remains one of the world's best-loved storytellers. From AudioFile:
Five children, three boys and two girls, take a holiday in the country and are ready for an adventure. Jan Francis has a British accent and sounds middle-aged, so listeners have to use their imaginations when she attempts the dialogue of the young boys. Since there are three other children in the story, in addition to the famous five, the parts gets confusing at times, especially in the dramatic scenes when Francis reads rapidly. But after a slow start, the perky and proper Francis improves as she gets into the story. A.G.H. © AudioFile 2004, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine
