Gr 3-6-These series titles are simple in appearance and format, with large type and lots of white space. Profusely illustrated with full-color and black-and-white reproductions, maps, and photographs, the texts are quite readable, sometimes engagingly so, providing a good introductory overview of the historical sites or event being treated. Unfortunately, many of the quotes are unattributed and the picture captions fail to acknowledge which selections are artists' renderings. The primary weakness in these accounts, however, is in the omission of the Native American perspective on the Jamestown settlers or the Lewis and Clark expedition. The failure to acknowledge that the story of the past is not the same for the different peoples involved is a missed opportunity and poor historiography.-Nancy Collins-Warner, Neill Public Library, Pullman, WA
