Using skills learned from her mom, an undercover cop, Chanti Evans has already exposed lies and made enemies at her posh new school, so she's no stranger to the games people play. But she's learning the hard way that at Langdon Prep, friends can play more dangerous games than any enemy. There's nothing like having someone in your corner when you're the new girl in school, but Chanti can't help suspecting that everything about her new friend, Bethanie, is a lie -- especially once she starts skipping classes and blowing Chanti off for her mysterious crush, Cole. Chanti really doesn't need the trouble of finding out the truth. She's busy enough trying to convince her hot almost-boyfriend Marco that her amateur sleuthing won't come between them again. But when Bethanie disappears with Cole, Chanti has only one chance to find her--even as her investigation puts her love life, and everything else, at risk. . .

Chanti Evans, a junior at the exclusive Langdon Prep school, has an eye for crime. She returns for her second urban mystery which begins when Chanti and her friend, Bethanie, are caught in a bodega hold-up and rescued by an older boy named Cole. Bethanie develops an immediate crush on Cole, but Cole's mysterious nature sets off Chanti's detective radar. Using skills she learned from her mother, Lana, a Denver cop, Chanti investigates Cole even as she discovers Bethanie may also be keeping secrets...Reid's latest book in the Langdon Prep series will give teens the flavor of urban lit without copious sex and swearing. Readers should not worry about starting mid-series. Reid provides an informative recap of Chanti's detective work from the first book. The mix of affluent and struggling neighborhood settings will appeal to a wide variety of teens who like their Gossip Girls on the realistic side. Chanti's detective work is astute and entertaining. It is refreshing to have a mystery series that integrates diversity without being heavy handed or preachy. Teen pregnancy, drugs, sex, and crime are discussed but not in great detail and with a factual, evaluative quality that fits Chanti's detective sensibilities. This series presents a balanced mix of mystery and realistic fiction for teens who like a mix of genres. Reviewer: Caitlin AugustaFrom School Library Journal:
