From the Back Cover:

Wild horses still endure in isolated spots around the globe—from the last mustangs of the Wild West to the famous ponies of Chincoteague and Assoteague, the ghostly white horses of the French Camargue to zebras in Africa and other breeds in Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Author Dayton O. Hyde is an old-time cowboy and former rodeo rider. In the 1980s, he witnessed some of America’s surviving wild mustangs being rounded up and sent to slaughter; it pulled at his heart strings, and he vowed to do something about it. In 1988, he established The Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary near Hot Springs, South Dakota, an 11,000-acre ranch to protect wild horses.

Rita and Charles Summers have traveled the globe photographing wild horses. Their work has been published in numerous books and magazines, including National Geographic, Audubon, and Sierra.
