Gr. 3^-6. Given the popularity of paper airplanes, it's surprising there aren't more books on the topic. This nice-looking, simply written guide will fill a need. Beginning with the basic glider, illustrated step-by-step directions are provided for 19 flying machines including helicopters, spaceships, and airplanes. The format is appealingly crisp, with color diagrams set against lots of white space. Although the finished products done in crisp, fancy paper may be somewhat misleading, they give kids something to aim for with their own creations. There are general hints to make the planes fly better, and each folded paper craft is rated for degree of difficulty. Substitute teachers, beware! Julie Corsaro
