Gr. 4-8. Many middle-schoolers who want to work for money often lack the practical skills to make their endeavors profitable. This encouraging, but also realistic, guide includes detailed information on how to start up, conduct, and keep records for five businesses (lemonade stand, baby-sitting, pet care, car washing, and lawn care), with briefer discussions of a number of more unusual ideas. The question-and-answer format is user friendly, if a bit condescending for older readers in the target age group. Especially helpful are sample forms, budgeting and merchandising primers, safety reminders, and tips on dealing with adults--both customers and parents. A list of Web sites is appended, but young entrepreneurs in search of additional books won't find a bibliography. Keep this practical title visible as summer job season approaches. Catherine Andronik
