Celebrated here are the special joys of childhood, especially the wonderful sense of being a part of it all. The words are plain, yet the images are poetic. The illustrations are simple, yet warm and engaging. Both convey basic truths and heartfelt emotions with which young readers will readily identify.

ELEANOR SCHICK, a former dancer and member of the Juilliard Dance Theater, is the author-illustrator of many books for children, including two other Cavendish Children's Books, Mama and Navajo Wedding Day. She lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico. From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-Grade 1-This prose poem evokes images both tangible and intangible. The illustrations feature a barefoot girl clad in a leotard exuberantly using her body to imitate a cat, a dog, clouds, and, ultimately, the dreamer and the dream. On each spread, a single briefly worded thought is brought to life with a pair of colored-pencil illustrations rendered with a light touch and muted palette. The borderless pictures are surrounded by abundant white space, enhancing the dreamy tone of the work. This book subtly illustrates the concepts of a pre-ballet or beginning-movement class. It also stands alone as a quiet celebration of the dreamer/dancer potential in every child.
