Synopsis
The Contextual Memory Test (CMT) will greatly expand the resources available to therapists to investigate their adult patients' memory status. It is unique in that it examines different aspects of an individual's knowledge of his or her memory limitations. The test was designed to be used by cognitive rehabilitation professionals, such as registered occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and psychologists, who have had experience working with individuals with memory impairment. It has been used with a wide variety of diagnoses, including patients with head trauma, cerebral vascular disorders, dementia, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, brain tumor, AIDS, epilepsy, chronic alcohol abuse, depression, and schizophrenia with negative symptoms. With the CMT, clinicians will be able to assess:

Recall CMT materials include the manual, two 8" x 11" picture cards, two sets of 40 recognition cards, and a scoring booklet (25 included with the manual). It also comes with two equivalent forms that can be used to screen for memory impairment and monitor changes in status. Examiners need to be familiar with all aspects of the CMT manual before administering the test. Therapists will be able to determine the extent to which a patient is responsive to cues aimed at enhancing strategy use and recall. And clinicians will be better able to design appropriate treatment programs with this valuable information. The CMT is easy to transport and can be administered rapidly and simply.
