Michael Dickmann is a professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and the Leadership Center at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He also serves as a leadership, learning, and development consultant to education, corporate, and service organizations. He is coauthor (with Nancy Stanford-Blair) of Leading With the Brain in Mind: 101 Brain-Compatible Practices for Leaders (Corwin Press 2003) and the second edition of Mindful Leadership (Corwin Press 2008).Review:
Scientifically credible, thoughtful, thought-provoking, well-written, and practical. A very accessible book for educators who wish to lead. (Robert Sylwester, Author)
In succinct yet understandable prose, the authors provide a unique perspective on the linkage between what we are learning about the brain and its intellectual capacities and how leaders can best utilize this information in order to provide effective leadership of their organizations. Carefully researched and documented, yet filled with practical, immediately usable strategies, this book is a must-read for anyone seeking to understand and influence human behavior. (Pat Wolfe, Educational Consultant)
Finally a book that translates what we know about brain functioning into practical guidelines for leadership. Dickmann and Stanford-Blair present their substantial knowledge in a way that is both easy to understand and to apply to the practice of leadership. I recommend this book to leaders in a variety of situations. (Robert J. Marzano, Educational Consultant)
This book will stimulate awareness about a complexity of leadership work, establish a framework for examining that awareness, provide provocative study exercises for the individual or a team and model how multiple intelligences can be used to enhance decision making. (The School Administrator, September 2002)
