Jayne Wexler is an acclaimed portrait photographer whose work has been featured in Esquire, Vibe, and Vanity Fair. From Booklist:
Good grief, another relationship photo book! Not a bad one, either. Ace photographer Cowen and human-interest journalist Wexler win hearts immediately with four cute-as-a-button second-graders. They proceed through other female friends of various ages, occupations, and circumstances, including two Kennedy sisters-in-law and concluding with singer Darlene Love and her best friend. Cowen's pictures are warm and amusing, even when they look a bit cooked, like that of two Manhattanites on a street corner, one hailing a cab while the other chomps pizza. Wexler keeps the verbiage easy and not too penetrating, which can be frustrating when she leaves one aching for the nitty-gritty, especially about the two hog-ridin' wimmin who managed to make a movie about two hog-ridin' wimmin in search of the bike Captain America rode in Easy Rider. What's next, a male buddies book? Look sharp, Cowen and Wexler, or Saline and Wohlmuth (Sisters, 1994, et seq.) or David Fields (Twins ) will beat you to it. Ray Olson
