A perky penguin stars in this brilliantly colored, cleverly designed book with a fun pull-the-tab finale.
With the Crayola-like charm of young children’s drawings, Petr HoráÝcek illustrates a typical day in the life of Flip the penguin - leaping out of bed, pulling on mismatched socks, kicking a soccer ball, and strolling cheerfully through a storm with a rainbow umbrella. But something peculiar is happening to Flip - his pages keep getting smaller! It all makes sense in the end when he pulls up a charming patterned quilt - made up of the edges of the previous pages - and drifts off to sleep under a pull-the-tab twinkling sky.

Petr Horácek, a young Czech illustrator and painter, made his publishing debut with the concept books STRAWBERRIES ARE RED and WHAT IS BLACK AND WHITE?
Working in a mixture of media, he loves to explore the bookmaking process with a style that is both bold and naïve, and full of startling color. Petr Horácek trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and worked as a graphic designer before moving to England, where he lives with his wife and two daughters.
Flip's Day by Petr Horacek follows an active penguin from sunup to sundown. The paper-over-board book features colorful laminated pages that grow progressively smaller with every turn. The final spread shows the penguin asleep under a bright blanket; a pull-tab reveals seven shining stars against the night sky. Ages 1-3.
