Lizi Boyd, who has written and illustrated numerous books for children, says that while working on some of the drawings for BLACK DOG GETS DRESSED she actually dressed up the family dog, Zuli. "She loved it!" the author-illustrator reports. Lizi Boyd lives with her husband and two sons.

Young readers may identify with the problems in the process-"Up, Black Dog. It's too hard to dress you when you're lying down." The willing pup lovingly cooperates for each succeeding layer of clothing until the boy surprises him and dons his own outfit for the day-a black dog costume. Gouache illustrations show uncluttered drawings of the boy and his dog as they play in his bedroom. Stripes, polka dots, and geometric patterns add interest to the simple figures outlined in black. Text placement and division give new readers simple words with ample visual clues.
