About the Author
Johanna Hurwitz is the award-winning author of more than sixty books for children, including Mostly Monty, Mighty Monty, and Amazing Monty, as well as the Riverside Kids series. She lives in Great Neck, New York.

Grade 4–6—Hurwitz asked 10 authors to write a piece with the tagline of the title. The cleverness displayed in the selections is uneven. Megan McDonald uses her familiar characters, Judy Moody and Stink, no novices in the fooling department, and Douglas Florian's poem is distinctively in his style, but contains unexpected elements, nonetheless. Some stories seem predictable from their titles, while others play with tropes that are seldom seen upended. For example, Michelle Knudsen's "The Bridge to Highlandsville" is absolutely logical yet lacks the ending most would expect. Matthew Holm's almost wordless "Sam and Pam" has the least depth, but adds a nice graphic-novel-style component to the package. Most readers will likely find something that they appreciate and something that they don't—which may be the best indication of the range of depth and complexity in this collection.—Carol A.
