Introduction We are receiving more and more letters with questions concerning brain function and mental acuity as the baby-boomer generation in America matures. Concern is growing about such things as general Age-Related Memory Loss (ARML), dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and other things that affect our minds as we get older. Younger writers also have questions about headaches, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), depression, anxiety, and other things that we commonly associate with the functions of the brain. As statistical data is showing a rise in many of these ailments, these concerns are very valid. We need to get more knowledge in these areas, but we also need to know that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. (See 2 Timothy 1:7.) God’s plan for all of us includes having a sound mind until the day we go home to be with Him. It is good to know that God has a pathway for each of us to maintain a healthy memory and a sharp mind.
There is so much research on natural means of helping our mind these days, but so few who know about it. The Bible tells us that our lack of knowledge can destroy us. (See Hosea 4:6.) Inventor Thomas Edison once said, "The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease." It is interesting how this is becoming truer as we enter the twenty-first century. As the field of natural treatments that has been termed Alternative Medicine grows in popularity and application, science is seeing more and more of the wisdom God put into His natural creation for the treatment of disease and dysfunction. We’re seeing for the first time a hint of this future of medicine. As doctors, we’ve got to be more and more open to using natural substances and diet to treat our patients.
God is opening the eyes of the medical community on a daily basis to the possibilities and benefits of herbal and plant-related treatments. We’ve done programs talking about estrogens and other hormones that come from plants. Other elements in plants prevent blood clots. The Bible talks about how knowledge would increase in the last days (see Daniel 12:4), and praise God, we’re seeing it. For a lot of things, pharmaceuticals are still the best treatment we know of, but science is discovering more and more that God has a better answer in His natural creation. We have to remain open to His best pathway to our health, whether it is through medicine or plant-based treatments. To do this we have to have knowledge. That is what I want to share with you in this book.
God has already provided many natural elements for helping us to maintain a healthy memory and a sharp mind as well as things that will help us heal our minds if we have already begun to slip in these areas. Agree with me in prayer now that God will use the information in this book to help you and your loved ones onto His pathway to healing with regard to memory loss or mental difficulties. And then begin to thank Him that He has already provided this pathway to healing—all we have to do is align ourselves with it and put it into action!
