Introduction Who doesn't have conflict? Conflict isn't a word just for the adult world. Every student in your class knows what it's like to face conflict daily. Some of these conflicts are ordinary, everyday ones-squabbles between siblings or friends about what belongs to whom or who gets to make decisions. Other conflicts are larger, more sinister. Many preteens are facing conflicts that could change or damage their lives. You might be surprised at what's going on in some of your kids' lives.

Whatever the magnitude, every conflict kids face is important, and they need to learn how to deal with conflict effectively and in ways that please God. This course will help students deal with conflict according to principles outlined in the Bible.

In the first study, preteens will examine the concept of conflict. They'll learn that conflict isn't necessarily a bad thing-unless they allow it to generate and maintain a life of its own. Kids will understand that although they can't avoid all conflict, they can control how they respond to it, and they'll want to choose to respond in a Christlike manner.

In study two, kids will learn how to handle conflicts with those in authority over them by speaking the truth in love.

Next, preteens will learn and practice reflecting Christ's love as they resolve conflicts with friends. They'll learn rules for "fighting fair," confronting directly, and focusing on what friends have in common in the midst of their differences.

Finally, kids will examine conflict with parents. They'll see that serving God by giving and receiving trust is the key to maintaining good relationships with parents, and they'll strive to earn that respect while freely bestowing it on parents.

These studies will help kids learn to resolve conflicts in the way God would want them to. They can learn to discuss problems, negotiate solutions, and offer forgiveness and new starts. When conflict results in constructive actions like these, it becomes a springboard for deeper communication, successful reconciliation, and a closer walk with Jesus.
