Do you want to spend more time with your kids? Are you concerned about the foods your family eats? Would you like your kids to master skills that will last them a lifetime, get better grades, and leave home being self-sufficient? Cooking with Kids for Dummies is the fun, hip survival guide every busy family needs.
I wrote this book for parents facing three very stubborn challenges: how to feed their families nutritiously, within a busy schedule, and still spend quality time with their kids. I also wrote it for kids and cooking novices of all ages-from preschoolers to teens to parents-who want to learn the basics of cooking and just have fun together. Of course, you could just buy it for the kids' food jokes, like these: "What did the cannibal order for take-out? Pizza-with everyone on it!" And, "How can you tell if an elephant has been in the refrigerator? Footprints in the cheesecake." It also makes a great gift for any mom, dad, kid, or even grandparent who enjoys cutting up in the kitchen.
I adore all the real-life families that contributed to this book - over 400 of them shared their own tips, anecdotes, and helpful hints for everything from feeding picky eaters to shopping with kids (without going nuts!). And the cooking tutorial is awesome-it covers kitchen safety, how to read a recipe, stovetop and oven cooking methods, illustrated techniques for using knives, and tips on small appliances, like handblenders, microwaves and more-but I also made sure it's simple and easy to follow. I like the fact that the recipes are quick-to-fix but they don't taste like "kid" recipes; I created them to be ones that the whole family will enjoy.
Cooking with Kids for Dummies is unquestionably the most comprehensive book of its kind. It's actually several books in one: A cookbook with over 75 recipes; a 7-lesson tutorial on cooking basics; a nutrition guide; a set of meal planning strategies with a full month of menus; and a book of family profiles featuring parents' practical ways and actual photos of everyday families who enjoy cooking, dining and shopping together.
I created the Web's first electronic food magazine, or e-zine, back in 1994, known as the eGG (electronic Gourmet Guide). This book grew out of my readers' requests. Over the years I noticed a trend. Parents were desperate-they told me they really wanted to put healthy, nutritious meals on the table, but were short on time and never got to spend enough of it with their kids as it was. They hated resorting to packaged instant meals, but didn't know what else to do. This community told me what they wanted, and out of that, Cooking with Kids for Dummies was born, and along with it, the companion Website. You can find more recipes also at my Global Gourmet Website, where I focus on international cooking for the home chef, and on my America Online sites at keywords: eGG and GG.About the Author:
Known as "the Global Gourmet," Executive Editor Kate Heyhoe set high standards for food Web sites in 1994 by launching the very first food and cooking magazine online. The award-winning electronic Gourmet Guide (eGG) was voted the Number 1 food Web site by USA Today, and was consistently ranked among the top sites by television's Food Network (TVFN), New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and others. The eGG has since evolved into the even more popular Global Gourmet® Web site, where Kate continues as Executive Editor with her partner and publisher Thomas Way. Their company also produces two food sites on America Online, and has created a companion Web site to this book, called Cooking with Kids. Traveling frequently as an industry consultant and lecturer, she is recognized within the cooking community as a culinary pioneer and by her readers as a warm, personable kitchen coach -- their Global Gourmet who "brings you the world on a plate." )
