About the Author

JILL SINCLAIR BELL has worked as an ESL teacher, teacher educator, and material developer in Canada, England, the Caribbean and Singapore. She is particularly interested in working with adult immigrants, and has written a variety of materials for students which combine language teaching with content information in areas such as occupational health and safety, human rights and newcomer orientation. She is the author of Teaching Multilevel Classes in ESL, and is currently teaching at York University in Toronto.

Formerly an English as a second language teacher in Japan and Canada, BARBARA BURNABY is a professor in the Adult Education Department, the Curriculum Department and the Modern Language Centre at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education in Toronto, Ontario.
