An intermediate fire behaviour training course developed for a Canadian audience. It covers fire environment, topography, fuel, weather, extreme fire behaviour, and assessing fire behaviour, and takes eight-to-ten hours to complete. The course is intended for those involved in the effective and efficient management of wildfire, from initial attack crews to upper management. Printable manager's and user's guides are included on the CD-ROM as are detailed installation instructions. The system requirements for the CD-ROM are as follows: Pentium 100 or better, Windows 95, minimum of 16 MB of total RAM memory and 100 MB of free hard drive space, colour SVGA monitor, Video for Windows software (included), 16-bit sound card, 8x or better CD-ROM and its driver. The CD-ROM is not designed to be run off a network accessed by many. Each CD must reside locally in each user's workstation because of the large demand for bandwidth in accessing the video and audio files. However, there are options for storing student data on the local workstation or on the network for access by an administrator.

Principles of Fire Behaviour, an interactive CD ROM, is a skill course designed to instruct you in wildland fire behavior for effective and safe fire management operations. This course will help you anticipate fire behavior based on a number of observable and measurable variables. It will assist you in planning for the suppression of wildfires and will help give you the edge you may need to protect your life and the lives of your co-workers. The course uses interactive multimedia technology in a CD-ROM format. It combines graphics, photos, animation, sound, and motion video with the interactivity, versatility, and responsiveness of the computer. This provides an efficient (and fun!) way to learn critical wildfire behavior information. Minimum system requirements: Windows 95, 98, NT or 2000, Pentium 100 with 16 MB of RAM, 100 MB of free hard drive space (4MB actually required for software), 8x CD-ROM, mouse, SVGA monitor, sound card, 'Video for Windows' software (included) For more information on this and other Environmental Training Centre multimedia products, visit the website.About the Author:
