Grade 4–6—These books aim to provide brief introductions to sports featured in the Summer Olympics. Each one includes a collection of factoids and photos; however, the cluttered design and poorly organized texts give little more than a muddled impression of each sport. Photos placed across the centerfold of each spread are problematic: in several instances, heads and faces are not visible, and participants are not clearly identified. A number of better Olympic overviews are available, such as Sue Macy's Swifter, Higher, Stronger: A Photographic History of the Olympic Games (National Geographic, 2008), and for older readers, David Wallechinsky's The Complete Book of the Olympics (Aurum, 2008) is the definitive guide.—Marilyn Taniguchi, Beverly Hills Public Library, CA
