New and shrinkwrapped. Chapter/Menu. The Tough Cardio Mix workout was taken from the original digibeta tape that was replicated/duplicated from our files. However, the tapes that are now being converted are detoriating rapidly, so it is a possibility that one version as mentioned was too detoriated to convert as the retail copy that was previously released. WE went back to the original workout, which necessarily does not mean it is the same as the retail copy when released.

This 1993 workout presents a variety of cardio intervals with rapidly changing moves and alternating instructors. The five instructors switch every few minutes, getting your heart working with aerobic moves on and off the step, sometimes using weights. The pace is quick, and there's plenty of variety. You'll need dumbbells (3 to 8 pounds), a short step (4 to 10 inches), a tall step (14 inches), and a dowel or broom handle. The instructors (all gorgeous hard-bodies) change moves quickly. They cue well but don't spend much time actually explaining the moves or giving technique--they basically keep you going. The muscle work is fast, promoting endurance more than strength, and overemphasizes the shoulder muscles. It's not a substitute for a weight-training workout, but it is effective, sweat-producing cardio. Recommended for intermediate exercisers with step experience. --Joan Price
