The last great gold rush of 1897 sent more than a hundred thousand people from all walks of life racing toward the Yukon and the Klondike. Terry Brandon was one of them. Abandoning his job and his fiancee, he scraped together a paltry $390 and bolted for the North.
On the way, he meets George and Annie O'Connell, also seeking their fortune. George, a retired lawyer and practising alcoholic, is quite a few years Annie's senior - and Terry narrowly escapes being shot by George in a drunken, jealous rage.
In Seattle, Terry finds his funds are insufficient for the journey ahead, but by mutual necessity, he manages to partner with Milton Conrad, the scion of a wealthy family who is determined to make his own fortune. But many obstacles - both natural and man-made - await them before their journey is complete.
