About the Author:
Dean Marshall Over the past decade, Dean Marshall has distinguished himself as a versatile pedagogue, composer, arranger and performer. As the current Artistic Director of the hot new fiddle group BARRAGE and as the Past Artistic Director of the Calgary Fiddlers Association and the Fiddlers GF, Mr. Marshall has stretched the parameters of violin playing by incorporating fiddling and traditional music styles with a contemporary world beat sound. He has also produced numerous recording and video projects. Mr. Marshall''s unique and highly effective approach to pedagogy ensures that he is in great demand as a teacher. His success in developing string players at all levels has resulted in workshops and lectures at the Midwest International Orchestra and Band Workshop, European String Teachers Association, Hawaii Suzuki Institute, Ohio Music Educators Conference and the International String Workshops. His composing and arranging credits include writing and producing the highly successful "Fiddle Club" series published by Marshall Crozman Music. He has also served as composer and arranger for Richard Hayman and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Trained as a classical violinist, Mr. Marshall is a graduate of the University of Toronto and Mount Royal College Conservatory. In addition to touring England, Scotland, Australia, the USA and Japan as a performer he is also a former winner of first prize in the Grand North American Fiddle Championships. John Crozman was born in Cape Breton and grew up in London, Canada. Introduced to the violin at public school, JOhn eventually went on to complete a Bachelor of Music degree in education at the University of Western Ontario. This was followed by post graduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music in London, England. In the midst of his formal studies, John adopted the viola as his principal instrument. The violin, however, was not neglected as he continued to explore his passion for fiddle music. He won several contest across Canada, including the Canadian Open NOvelty Class (4 times) and has given numerous performances in England, Scotland, Germany, Canada and the United States. John has also performed on the CBC, CTV, BBC and Global Television Networks. In England, he had the honor of playing for violinist Yehudi Menuhin on the occasion of his 70th birthday. John taught at the Mount Royal College Conservatory of Music for seven years and is the former Managing Director of The Calgary Fiddlers. Currently, he is an integral part of the creative team responsible for the formation, development and management of Barrage. John's commitment to music education is realized through the international success of Barrage - a key component in JOhn's exploration of the artistic possibilities of string instruments.
