The "5 Snapshots" were inspired by Images (photos and recollections) and deal respectively with different technical problems. Approaching each piece as a character study reveals the associations between the titles and the music. The pieces were designed for the student guitarist, not only to satisfy only technical-didactic requirements, but also to be musically satisfying.

About the Author:

Iwan Tanzil, born in Jakarta, Indonesia in 1963, started playing the guitar at age 14. In 1983 he began studies at the Academy of the Arts in Berlin. He took his final examination in 1988, and in 1991 received the Certificate of Completion, both with distinction. During his studies Tanzil took various international Masterclasses with teacher such as Javier Hinojosa, Vladimir Mikulka, Manuel Barrueco, Roberto Aussel, Angelo Gilardino. In 1989 Tanzil won first prize at the 24th Annual International Classic Guitar Championship in Milan, Italy. He has performed in various European and Asian countries. In addition to solo performances, Tanzil has played in concert with various orchestras, with which he has performed the guitar concertos of Giuliani, Castelbuovo-Tedesco and Rodrigo. In addition to broadcast performances, Tanzil also has released three CDs. His first CD was released by Blackbird Records in 1991 (music by Nikita Koshkin, Rodrigo, Giuliani, and Terzi). The second followed in 1993, called "Promenade", with works by Zenamon, Flores, Il-Ryun Chung, and others. The latest CD, "Guitarra Poetica," presents current compositions by contemporary composers exclusively, such as "Drei Impressionen" by Iwan Tanzil.
