Grade 4-6-This title merges DK's famous picture-and-caption format with a few cellophane overlaid pictures showing interiors. The many spreads look at such topics as religion, society, and Alexander the Great. The book has the same format and pictures (with new captions) as Anne Pearson's Ancient Greece (DK, 2000), but the transparent pages are a definite enhancement as they show a wealth of detail. Unfortunately, the most interesting part of the scene is often lost in the gutter (this is especially true of the statue of Athena in the Parthenon picture). While Rowena Loverance and Tim Wood's Ancient Greece (Viking, 1993) uses the same format, Chrisp's title is attractive.
