PreS. The series name--Baby Genius-- may be a bit ambitious, but these two board books offer a stimulating collection of images, grouped by color or shape, for kids who haven't reached their second birthday. Both books feature items familiar to most children (a rubber duck, a ball, a flower, a kitten, a pair of tiny shoes, and so on), described in bouncy, often alliterative text. The vibrant, close-up color photos are printed on sturdy, glossy pages that are larger than those in most board books. First-time parents (and relatives) may appreciate the suggestions, printed on the back covers, for engaging babies with questions about what they see on the pages: "Where's the red drum?"
