From School Library Journal:

Grade 7-10-Among the issues addressed in Children are the probable causes of violent crime and some possible solutions. This well-balanced presentation also explores the history of attitudes toward children and crime from the Code of Hammurabi to the present day. Specific cases and profiles of young people who murder are presented from the mid-19th century to the more recent and highly publicized school tragedies, including the events at Columbine High School. Worth has done a commendable job of presenting opposing views and balanced discussions. Bryan J. Grapes's Violent Children (Greenhaven, 2000) addresses the same issues and problems. Insanity offers an overview of the development of a legal definition of this defense from Hebraic law to more recent reform efforts. Public attitudes, misunderstandings, and criticisms of the plea are discussed as are cases that influenced the evolution of the defense. Well-known cases, including those of John Hinckley, Jr., Kip Kinkel, Jeffrey Dahmer, John du Pont, and Theodore Kaczynski, are analyzed. Worth provides differing views concerning the legal definitions and decisions involved in this defense. Both titles include average-quality, black-and-white photographs. Useful additions, good for sparking classroom discussions.
