Synopsis

As a boy he dreamed of being a spy undercover behind enemy lines. As a man he found himself undercover for God. Brother Andrew was his name and for decades his life story, recounted in God’s Smuggler, has awed and inspired millions. The bestseller tells of the young Dutch factory worker’s incredible efforts to transport Bibles across closed borders—and the miraculous ways in which God provided for him every step of the way. Revell and Chosen now reintroduce this powerful story with two new releases: a 35th anniversary edition and The Narrow Road, an expanded youth edition. Both contain a new foreword and afterword. The youth edition also features information about ministry to the persecuted church today, including country profiles, quotes from Christians in underground churches, "what if" scenarios based on real-life threats they face, and stories from others who have participated in Brother Andrew’s Bible-smuggling work. Brother Andrew’s story remains as inspiring today as it was thirty-five years ago, and with these new releases it will motivate a whole new generation to risk everything to follow God’s call.

About the Author

Brother Andrew began his work in 1955 as a one-man mission—visiting, teaching, and taking Bibles to Christians behind the Iron Curtain. That work has since developed into Open Doors International, a nondenominational organization with bases around the world. When not traveling, Brother Andrew makes his home in the Netherlands. Jars of Clay is a multi-platinum selling and GRAMMY Award winning band. They have long been committed to raising awareness of persecuted Christians through charitable efforts and work with organizations such as Prayer for the Persecuted Church. Their hugely successful albums include IF I LEFT THE ZOO and a 1995 self-titled release that included the popular radio single, "Flood." Their song "This Road" was originally part of the Dove Award winning project CITY ON A HILL—SONGS OF WORSHIP AND PRAISE.

From the Back Cover

"This road that we travel May it be the straight and narrow God give us peace and grace from you" —from the song "This Road" by Jars of Clay Jars of Clay gained a new perspective on the body of Christ as they sang these words to members of underground churches in China and Vietnam. There they came face to face with brothers and sisters who are daily threatened with imprisonment, beatings, even death, for their faith in Jesus Christ. The band now offers "This Road" as an anthem of support for Christians around the world, making it a perfect fit for the stories found in The Narrow Road. Begin with the incredible autobiography of Brother Andrew. Since 1955, this remarkable man has risked his life to help persecuted Christians by smuggling Bibles into countries where owning or distributing them is strictly forbidden. His report, packed with dangerous adventures and amazing turns, testifies of God's miraculous provision for those who risk it all. Journey also into places still hostile to Christians-with profiles on courageous champions of the faith. Meet teens and others across the globe who, like the believers Jars of Clay visited, are mercilessly persecuted for their faith, yet display extraordinary joy. Their stories, along with Brother Andrew's, will forever change the way you walk the narrow road.

From the Inside Flap

"Our culture has been blinded from a true vision of the way God works in suffering. There is a world beyond the safety of our insular church culture. There are miracles and tragedies, passion and suffering, great joy and indescribable injustice. . . ." -from the foreword by Daniel Haseltine of Jars of Clay
