From Library Journal:
Presbyterian minister James R. Carroll and his son, John T. Carroll (New Testament, Union Theological Seminary), collaborate in this examination of the most provocative and difficult words of Jesus. They have chosen over a dozen passages from the New Testament for interpretation, including the parables of the good Samaritan, the prodigal son, and Lazarus and the rich man. The authors also present the last words of Jesus, which express a profound sense of abandonment and evoke the full import of his humanity. The authors are careful to consider the cultural context of these selected passages, providing helpful historical background, footnotes, and a bibliography. Although the committed lay reader may benefit from this book, it is geared toward the preaching ministry.
