Traces the history of our attempts to keep things cool, from the early use of fans and ice to modern refrigeration and air conditioning

Grade 5-8Keeping Things Cool will probably not be a hot item in middle school media centers. It is an historical account of refrigeration and air conditioning that covers past, present, and future methods of keeping cool. The text is easy to read, but dry, and Fahrenheit is misspelled in the text and the index. Interesting historical photos appear throughout. Although Keeping Things Cool may be the first readable book on the subject, and it may be used for an occasional report on refrigeration or air conditioning, most students will find an encyclopedia or a book on inventions more useful and interesting.
