PreS--Four board books that feature bright, sharply focused photographs set against a white background with a large-print text above them. Similar in concept to the stories about Spot by Eric Hill (Putnam), each title focuses on a toddler searching for a specific item. Children lift sturdy cardboard flaps to peer under blankets, behind pots, and in baskets for a rubber duck, a puppy, a shovel, or a train. The texts are wordier than those found in most beginning board books, but the stories flow smoothly and stay on target until the elusive item is located. The books are visually appealing and designed with care. Useful purchases for collections needing materials for the youngest prereaders.
