An introductory section looks at the demographic characteristics of the rural elderly. Issues related to resource development are then examined, looking at the rural elderly in terms of their social needs, their economic contributions to communities, the development of senior centres as community focal points and the need for transportation alternatives. Physical and mental health issues are also discussed and finally, attention is given to social support such as home and community care.
