William Low was born and raised in New York City. He is a lover of trains and New York architecture. Mr. Low is the author and illustrator of Chinatown and a four-time Silver Medal winner at the Society of Illustrators. Currently, he teaches at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-Grade 2-Lily is a little black dog who loves all the familiar things about living with Aunt Eliza in her small Boston apartment-soft blue couch, big yellow chair, bookcase, piano, and chewable rubber hedgehog. But one day, everything changes: the woman packs up, movers empty the apartment, and dog and mistress begin the long car trip to a new home in the Vermont countryside. Lily is frightened at first but as the old familiar objects are placed in their new setting, she begins to feel more comfortable. After supper, settled on Eliza's lap "where she fit perfectly with just a little left over," life is just the way Lily likes it. Children will respond to her feelings of unease over change, be reassured by Aunt Eliza's calming words and genuine affection for her companion, and will probably not question (as adults might in the absence of any other characters) just whose aunt this young woman is. The bold pastel drawings are striking, particularly those in the purple and blue range, and are very effective in several double-page spreads. An engaging choice for one-on-one sharing or story hours.
