A two-in-one book expresses two familiar emotions as they are experienced by animals, portraying a chuckling chipmunk and a belly-laughing bullfrog on the happy side while a camel curls his lip and a gorilla feels grumpy on the sad side.

PreS-Gr 1--This entertaining reversible picture book features various creatures displaying a variety of feelings. The words are easy for children to remember, thanks to the catchy alliterations, such as "The chipmunk chuckles" and "The porcupine pouts." Paschkis does use some more complex words, e.g., broods and giddy, which offer an excellent opportunity to increase youngsters' vocabulary. The bold print complements the gouache illustrations, whose bright, rich colors are appealing to the eye. The book is excellent for lap reading, small-group sharing, and as a starting point for talking about emotions.
