A compendium of favorite camp songs for all ages to enjoy.
Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh,
Here I am at Camp Granada.
Camp is very entertaining.
And they say we’ll have some fun
if it stops raining.
The mosquitoes are out and biting, the rain’s coming down in buckets, and there’s poison ivy on the trail. We’re a long way from home and the food here stinks!
Camp wouldn’t be camp without troubles to share. But there are also new friends to make, adventurous trails to be climbed, and toasty evenings by the fire to enjoy (not to mention a fair bit of silliness).
Classic camp-song favorites—from “Rise and Shine” and “Found a Peanut” to “Kum Ba Yah”—and vibrant, folksy illustrations make this offering a musical walk through the campgrounds for generations to treasure.

Frané Lessac has fond memories of summer camp in the New Jersey countryside. In creating this book, Ms. Lessac specifically chose songs that call for participation. It is her hope that readers will be singing (or humming) along from start to finish. Ms. Lessac has illustrated many books for young readers, including On the Same Day in March, which was named a Booklist Top Ten Science Book for Children and a Notable Children’s Trade Book in the Field of Social Studies. She lives in Freemantle, Australia, with her family.
Gr. 2-5. This vibrantly illustrated picture book for older children features lyrics to 34 camp songs, including such classics as "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh" and "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt." Lessac's colorful and funny folk-art illustrations provide some story as they follow a group of campers through a day of activities, from the wake-up bugle to lights out. Readers will enjoy the subtle jokes on every page as frogs are slipped into pants, raccoons crawl into sleeping bags, and marshmallows are smeared on faces. Unfortunately, the music for the songs is not included, although occasional introductions to the selections suggest a suitable melody; for example, "Sing to the tune of 'Row, Row, Row Your Boat.'" While this may not be useful as a definitive collection of songs, it does offer an amusing glimpse of the community and landscape that make up camp life. Todd Morning
