The Queen of Hearts is a love story written for children, letting them know what may occur to them later on in their lives as they grow into the unpredictable teens, becoming young adults.
The poet, Lynn McClarrin Vaupel, takes children through an adventure in their lives, with poems such as "The Bicycle Rider" and "Hard Hat," which is a poem about which career hat is he or she going to wear as an adult. Other poems, such as "The Little Spider," "My Kittens Have Claws," and "Sugar's Bedtime" are stories that dwell in fantasy versus real-life stories, where children have playmates who are real, live characters!
These poems reach out to children to give them different approaches to growing up.
