Text: English, French (translation)From Library Journal:
This introduction to Greek art from the 6th to the 4th centuries B.C. is problematic. It is handsomely designed, lavishly illustrated (over 1000 reproductions, 161 in color) and thorough, covering major stylistic developments, key monuments, significant themes and motifs, and some 80 archaeological sites from Spain to Asia Minor. It is also expensive and out of date, a translation--not even a revision--of a 20-year-old French coffee-table book. The bibliography includes a few citations for the period from 1972 to the present, but this does not excuse the omission of important recent discoveries (e.g., the Riace Bronzes) and changes in the field. Caveat emptor .
