Carlos Finlay was born a Cuban citizen to Scottish parents in 1833. As an adult, he did much medical research, specifically on yellow fever, a disease which rampaged throughout Cuba. After much perseverance and study, he proved that yellow fever was caused by the bite of infected mosquitoes, and as a result, that disease was nearly eradicated from Cuba. Bilingual text (Spanish and English) appropriate for grades four and up.
