Reviews

A wildlife biologist, naturalist, and photographer, Osborne offers 65 stunning full-color photographs of wildflowers from the mountains of Alaska to California's desert. He divides the photos into three categories according to type of terrain: alpine, desert/interior, and coastal. There's a rich variety of plants set against a background of mountains, meadows, streams, and lakes. Poet Stephen Hume points out in an informative introduction the intangible value of these wildflowers, some of them facing extinction. In his captions Osborne fails to identify the location of each photograph, which would be of interest to some readers, but this is a minor drawback. George Cohen
